Newport Folk And Jazz Festivals Canceled Due To Coronavirus
Newport Folk Festival and Newport Jazz Festival – have announced that they will be canceled by 2020 due to concerns about the coronavirus. Each event should return in the summer of 2021.
In a double set of posts, Newport Festivals Foundation CEO Jay Sweet announced the cancellations. In a press release, Sweet said that “in collaboration with our local leaders and [Rhode Island] Governor Gina Raimondo, we have concluded that at this time, we are in too much of a risk to have a meeting our size”.
Currently, all gatherings of more than five people are banned throughout the state. Now he is ordered to stay home until May 8.
For the two festivals, says Sweet, all of the artists invited to perform in 2020 have already been invited to the 2021 editions. He also promised that “we will all communicate in one way or another during our weekend of the festival “.
Both editions of Newport are among the most influential music festivals in the world and have produced marketed historical recordings.
